Glow in the dark stair nosing questions answered

How long do photoluminescent stair nosings glow for?

After around 8 hours under normal office lighting they typically glow for up to 1 to 2 hours in darkness. Brighter light and longer exposure give a stronger, longer glow.

Do they need power or batteries?

No. The luminescent pigment is built into the GRP during manufacture and charges from ordinary daylight or artificial light, so there is nothing to wire in or maintain. They must be fitted where they receive enough light to charge.

Are glow in the dark nosings anti-slip?

Yes. They have a coarse anti-slip grit surface, so they add grip to the step edge as well as marking it in the dark.

Do they replace emergency lighting?

No. They are a wayfinding aid that makes step edges visible if the lights fail or during an evacuation. They work alongside your emergency lighting and fire safety arrangements rather than replacing them.

What size are they?

They use a 70mm x 30mm retro-fit profile and come in 1000mm, 1500mm, 2000mm and 3000mm lengths, which can be cut to size on site.
