Our stair safety range helps you make steps and staircases safer, more visible and compliant in commercial, industrial and public buildings. It covers anti-slip GRP stair nosings for highlighting and protecting step edges, and full GRP stair tread covers that cover the whole step for maximum grip.
Both are made from hard-wearing fibreglass with a gritted anti-slip surface and retrofit quickly onto concrete, steel, timber or worn existing steps. Highlighting the leading edge of each step in a contrasting colour helps reduce slips, trips and falls and supports compliance with Building Regulations Part K, Approved Document M and the Equality Act 2010.
We cut to size, offer next day delivery on many items and can install for you. If you are unsure which profile or finish suits your stairs, call 01480 570001 or email info@safetyproductsdirect.co.uk.

Anti-slip stair safety products for every kind of staircase
Most slips on stairs happen at the step edge, where a foot lands short or the surface is wet, worn or hard to see. Our GRP and aluminium stair products fix that in one of two ways: stair nosings cover just the leading edge with a gritted, high-contrast strip, while stair tread covers resurface the whole step and are the better choice when treads are badly worn or damaged.
Everything is supplied in stock lengths that you can cut to size on site, with fixing kits available, so a maintenance team can refurbish a staircase in a day without closing it for long. Not sure which you need? Our guide to stair tread covers vs stair nosings walks through it.
Stair safety FAQs
Do I need stair nosings or stair tread covers?
If the treads are sound and you mainly need grip and visibility at the edge, stair nosings are the quicker, lower-cost fix. If the treads are worn, cracked or slippery across their whole depth, tread covers resurface the entire step.
Are stair nosings a legal requirement?
Building Regulations Parts K and M call for step edges that are clearly visible and slip-resistant on many staircases, and nosings with a contrasting colour are the usual way to achieve that. Our stair nosing regulations guide explains where they apply.
Can your stair products be used outdoors?
Yes. Our GRP nosings, tread covers and landing covers come with a coarse grit option for external stairs, fire escapes and walkways. Aluminium nosings are for internal use.
Do you offer installation?
Yes, we offer an installation service as well as supplying products for you to fit. Call us on 01480 570001 to discuss your project.
